Week 5 activities

This week I thought I would show you some of the activities do during our morning timetable, this is when we do things like literacy and fine motor skills such as writing, cutting, gluing and threading
We all love using Letterland on the interactive whiteboard
Alphabet puzzles and games are always popular
Some students are practising personal details like spelling their name, learning their birthday, address and phone number
Sophie-Marie is practising reading and spelling high frequency words



Cutting and gluing is a regular feature of our class activities, students are getting really confident with scissors and glue sticks now. This week we were cutting out space pictures to glue into our topic book.

Term 4 is flying by!

Oh dear - I just realised I haven't posted anything since the end of last term! Apologies, it has been a whirlwind 4 weeks, and I think the remaining 5 weeks are going to be the same! Here are a few highlights from the term so far: Firstly, we welcomed a new student to our class! Grace joins us from St Joseph's School and has settled in really well. That takes our number of students up to 8, so things are pretty busy now! Because of this, we have also welcomed Tania (who was next door in Rm21), into our class for the rest of the year to give us a hand - thank you Tania! On Thurs 18th Oct we participated in the New Zealand Shake Out - a national earthquake drill. We watched The Turtle Safe song  and practiced for several days prior. Then at 9.30am on the 18th, we pretended there was an earthquake and all dropped to the ground and covered our heads. Some of us hid under tables too. Bits and pieces from the last week or two

I couldn't choose just one thing to write about for this post, so here are a few snippets of things that have been happening. 1) Our new tea set! Steph found a tea set for a bargain price recently so bought it for our class. It was an instant hit with many of our students and there have been many tea parties, cooking sessions, doing the dishes etc this week. Thanks for the great new resource Steph! 2) We are often quite tired towards the end of the day so have been building some 'relaxation time' into our afternoon programme. Sometimes we enjoy the GoNoodle song 'Chillax' to get us to focus on breathing and stretching, but other times we get out the cushions and blankets, turn the lights off, and listen to some relaxing music for 10-15mins. Week 2 - Japan

Wow, week 2 by! We all had an awesome time learning all about the amazing country of Japan.  Here is a quick snapshot of a few of things we got up, including Friday's definite highlight of making sushi with a real chef, called Shu, who works at Hachi Hachi - make sure you pop in and see him sometime and buy some sushi for yourselves! We used a website to translate our names into Japanese - they looked very different! The Japanese flag is very easy to colour in. We had a go at making some origami fish, and also coloured in some pictures of Koi. In art we painted some beautiful cherry blossoms, by using the bottom of a soft drink bottle dipped in paint. In cooking we made teriyaki beef with vermicelli noodles on lettuce cups - yum! Sophie-Marie enjoyed the cooking, but it was a bit tricky to pick up in the lettuce! Chopsticks are tricky!
