A Royal Wedding Tea Party

In preparation for Saturday's Royal Wedding, our class spent a bit of time during the week talking about the royal family, sharing our knowledge of them, and discussing who it is who was getting married on Saturday. Then to top it all off, and get into the wedding spirit, we made some delicious English treats, decorated our classroom, and invited some of our friends to our Tea Party - a great way to end the week!

Some of our decorations included Steph's beautiful tea towel with the Queen's picture on it, and a very precious photo belonging to Sophie-Marie's mum which is of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip on their wedding day. Thank you very much for sharing these with us.

Our afternoon tea included scones with jam and cream, dainty sandwiches, ginger kisses, heart shaped biscuits and "champagne" (lemonade).


We invited Zara, Mollie, Rylee and Kaitlin from Mahuri class to join us.
There were heaps of dress ups to choose from - tiaras, jewels, bowties, fascinators, hats....
Kieran took a shining to a beautiful pink hat.
Sophie-Marie looked like a princess in her tiara. Just beautiful.
We had a good range of activities to keep us busy during the party too. Pin the tail on the corgi and Pin the tiara on the princess were both pretty tricky but we all gave them a go. Our winner for the tiara game was definitely Zara - so close to the right spot!
 



For those who like colouring, there was a 'colour by number' activity where students could colour a red, white and blue Union Jack flag.

One of our most popular activities was definitely the playdough table, where students could make a playdough crown for Meghan, or cut out some bunting or flags, or make some wheels for the carriage, or of course make their own creation.


The other very popular activity was our creativity table where students could design their own wedding dress or suit. Many students spent a lot of time a this table, creating some beautiful outfits fit for a royal.

Molly's dress included a lot of gold glitter - I wonder if Meghan's dress will too...
And lastly, we were lucky enough to have a visit from Meghan Markle herself!
(Just kidding, we had a lot of fun with masks of the royal family too)

Term 4 is flying by!

Oh dear - I just realised I haven't posted anything since the end of last term! Apologies, it has been a whirlwind 4 weeks, and I think the remaining 5 weeks are going to be the same! Here are a few highlights from the term so far: Firstly, we welcomed a new student to our class! Grace joins us from St Joseph's School and has settled in really well. That takes our number of students up to 8, so things are pretty busy now! Because of this, we have also welcomed Tania (who was next door in Rm21), into our class for the rest of the year to give us a hand - thank you Tania! On Thurs 18th Oct we participated in the New Zealand Shake Out - a national earthquake drill. We watched The Turtle Safe song  and practiced for several days prior. Then at 9.30am on the 18th, we pretended there was an earthquake and all dropped to the ground and covered our heads. Some of us hid under tables too. Last post of the year - a mixture of bits!

And just like that - the year is over! I have taken literally hundreds and hundreds of photos this year, and wish I had time to share them all. Here are a few highlights from the last few weeks that I want to share before I log off for the summer break. These photos were snapped the other day when I noticed Grace and Kieran playing a game of peekaboo around the classroom door. Both were in fits of laughter and having a great time - so lovely to watch, especially as Grace has only been with us a few weeks. We also role-played going to the hairdressers, to help one of our students who finds it a bit stressful. Kieran volunteered to be our model. He wore a cape (an art shirt!), we sprayed his hair with a bit of water, then PRETENDED to cut his hair with both scissors and a fantastic app called 'Hair Trimmer' which sounds exactly like actual clippers. Around the World - our week in the Netherlands

This term our topic is 'Around the World' and each week we will be studying a different country, learning how to find it on the map, looking at it's flag and how to say hello in the language, tasting food from the country, and learning a bit about what makes it unique and different to NZ. We kicked off the term with The Netherlands, since 2 of our Teacher Assistants are married to Dutch men, and one of our Teacher Assistants is in fact Dutch herself! On our outing on Tuesday we drove to the "Magnolia Electric Cafe", which until recently was called Van Dams Dutch Cafe. In the foyer there was a display of lots of embroideries, paintings and objects from the Netherlands, and inside the cafe they have a good range of dutch food products for sale. We were all very interested in the different cheeses, hotdogs in a can, and the range of lollies! In the end we decided to purchase a bag of these lollies below.
